forest & garden animals squirrels
Squirrels often like to visit gardens, especially if you set up a nice feeding area for them. They are beautiful to watch! As pets, they are not easy to keep. For example, they require special housing. Many squirrel species nest in hollow trees, caves, or they build a nest from branches. Ground squirrels prefer to live in burrows. A marmot, for example, is also a ground squirrel.
The health and nutrition of squirrels require specific attention. Squirrels eat relatively a lot! They consume about 5–15% of their body weight daily. Squirrels are omnivores. Most of their diet is plant-based: nuts, seeds, buds, and twigs. In addition to this basic diet, they also enjoy bird eggs and insects.
Alfamix squirrel food contains, among other things, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, rose hips, cedar nuts, and raisins. Vitamins and minerals have been added in the correct proportions. This balanced composition closely matches the natural diet of squirrels.
