rodents guinea pigs
Guinea pigs can steal your heart. When they are “feeling well,” they are social, playful animals with a beautiful, soft, and shiny coat. This small companion animal is a special rodent! Guinea pigs are one of the few animal species that require vitamin C but cannot produce it themselves. They therefore need to obtain vitamin C from their feed. In addition, guinea pigs are true “fiber digesters”: they extract many important nutrients from roughage. The amounts of starch and fiber in guinea pig feed therefore require just as much attention as the vitamin C content. That is why they need their own specific feed. Garvo offers exactly the right menu for guinea pigs.
Pellets, muesli, and mixed feed
All Garvo guinea pig feeds are perfectly suitable for the most beloved guinea pigs of children as well as for the most beautiful show guinea pigs. All Garvo guinea pig feeds contain exactly the right building blocks to allow young guinea pigs to grow smoothly and gradually, and to keep adult guinea pigs in good condition. The feed is delicious and contributes to their optimal natural resistance and health. 5068 guinea pig pellets with vitamin C consist of compressed pellets. 1050 alfamix guinea pig is a muesli made from pure loose ingredients and whole fibers. Pellets and muesli have virtually the same properties. They can therefore be used separately or in combination. Garvo also offers 5080 mixed guinea pig feed.
feeding advice
- always supplement guinea pigs’ diet with structured hay. They need a lot of extra fiber
- green food or fruit can be given as a supplement, but it is not strictly necessary thanks to the vitamin C in the feed
- provide guinea pigs with fresh feed daily; approximately 30–45 grams per animal per day
- do not give too much feed, so that the guinea pigs empty the feeding bowl completely. Otherwise, they will only eat the tastiest parts (selective eating) and leave behind other essential nutrients
- prefer pellets if the guinea pigs are too selective in their eating
